Staten Island, N.Y. – The Rough Riders kicked off their crucial final 3-game run of the season with a commanding 6-0 win away at Wagner College against Staten Island ASC.

Long Island dominated possession early and then took an early lead in the 8th minute through Carter Taveres, who scored from around the penalty spot off a great low-driven cross from Joshua Gordon.

Just six minutes later, the Rough Riders would double their lead on a great set piece. Tyler Morck whipped in a cross to the edge of the six-yard box, where Nakai Antione would get his head on the ball before the keeper could grab it, solidifying the Rough Riders’ control of the match and their 2-0 lead.

The Rough Riders would continue to control the pace of play for much of the first half, and in the 28th minute, Tyler Morck and Ayden Kokoszka combined for a beautiful give-and-go on the edge of the Staten Island penalty area, leading to a tidy finish from Morck to increase the Long Island lead to 3-0.

The second half began with Long Island continuing to dominate right away as Londell Wheeler added the fourth goal of the day in the 46th minute with a clean and powerful finish over the goalkeeper to reset the tone of the match coming out of the halftime break, extending the Rough Rider lead to 4-0.

After continuing to dominate the match for the majority of the second half, Nakai Antione would add his second set piece goal of the day, this time coming from a nice corner routine by the Rough Riders for their fifth of the match.

Just before the final whistle, the Rough Riders would add their sixth and final goal of the match with a stunning half-volley from just Paul Moodie, which arrowed into the top left corner of the goal from just outside the penalty area.

A commanding win for the Rough Riders as their best goal of the day capped off probably their best performance of the season thus far, as they controlled the pace of play all match. Long Island will look to build on this momentum in their final two games of the season next week as they push for a playoff spot. Their next game will be on Thursday, July 2nd vs Cedar Stars at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
