The Bronx, N.Y. – The Rough Riders continue their strong recent run of play beating Manhattan SC 4-0 on the road in USL League 2 action Tuesday evening at Marillac Field.
After a strong performance against the first-place FC Motown, the Rough Riders were looking for a strong result to stay in the race for the second playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division.
Manahattan SC came into the game looking to bounce back from a tough 5-0 loss against the Westchester Flames last Saturday.
Unfortunately for Manhattan, it all went downhill pretty quickly. Long Island forward Carter Tavares passed to midfielder Tyler Morck cutting into the box, deking the keeper and scoring in the fourth minute.
Long Island scored again in the 31st minute. The play started with Long Island forward Londell Wheeler intercepting a pass in his attacking end. He drove into the right side of the box and put a shot on goal, the keeper kicked it back out and front which allowed the crashing Tavares to put back the rebound and score, 2-0.
The Rough Riders defense held firm the rest of the first half and through much of the second half. The Manhattan offense starting getting desperate to score, which allowed the Rough Riders to score on the counter attack in the 90th minute. Long Island substitute Oscar Quinn Pasin sent a long pass to the attacking right wing, allowing Miguel Soto Gonzalez to run onto it and score one-on-one against the keeper, 3-0.
Less than a minute later in added time, the Rough Riders again scored on the counter attack. Soto Gonzalez received another long pass down the right wind, but this time crossing it into the box, Quinn Pasin controlled it and roofed it, making the score 4-0.
With the win, the Rough Riders now have 14 points through seven games (4-1-2), keeping them in the race for the second playoff spot. They’re still behind Ironbound SC in second place with 16 points through six games (5-0-1) and FC Motown in first place with 19 points through seven games (6-0-1). Manhattan drops to sixth place with ten points through eight matches (3-4-1).
The Rough Riders next USL League 2 game is at home on Sunday, June 21 at 5:30 PM taking on the Westchester Flames at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.
