18-0 Win for the Women Over FA Euro

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – The Long Island Rough Riders picked up where they left off against FA Euro New York, routing their Metropolitan rivals for the second time in eight days en route to a record-setting 18-0, in a USL W League game at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. on Wednesday night.

The 18 goals in the match and 13 in the second half were a franchise records, for Rough Riders men and women.

Long Island (7-2-2, 23 points), which still has playoff hopes, continued its dominance over FA Euro New York (0-11-0, 0), after defeating the Brooklyn side, 7-0, on June 29.

For the first time in team history, three Rough Riders women’s players walked out of the stadium a hat-tricks in a game as Nikki Bermudez, Nina Carlomusto and Furtuna Velaj tallied three goals apiece.

Eleven Riders players found the net. Alexa Schneider finished with two goals, Kimberly Marra, Salma Tarik, Jordan Littleboy, Carly Bloom, Emily Rose, Christian Bellero and Christian Dutcher single tallies.

It was all Rough Riders from the opening whistle as the visitors rarely got the ball past midfield in the game.

That pressure paid off in the 15th minute as an unmarked center back Carlomusto scored her first goal of the season, from the top left of the box into the lower right corner past goalkeeper Reem Shaban for a 1-0 edge on a play that was started by a Marra corner kick.

Seven minutes later, Littleboy intercepted the ball at midfield to begin the second scoring sequence. Bermudez, who entered the game with five goals, latched onto a feed on the left side and powered a shot home for a two-goal lead.

The Riders weren’t finished as Schneider headed home a Marra corner into the back of the net in the 31st minute, a shot that Shaban managed to get a hand on.

Marra connected for a four-goal margin in the 38th minute as she rushed in on net and beat the keeper from six yards on the right side.

Bermudez put in her second in the 43rd minute for a 5-0 halftime advantage.

Long Island poured it on in the second half with 13 goals.

In chronological order, this is how it went:

Schneider (46th), Bermudez (50th), Velaj (53rd), Tarik (59th), Littleboy (66th), Carlomusto (68th), Tarik (70th), Bloom (72nd), Velaj (75th), Rose (77th), Bellero (81st), Velaj (84th) and Dutcher (86th).
