UNIONDALE, N.Y. – (Thursday, February 24, 2022) –

The Rough Riders are excited to announce Matt Lannon as Club Technical Director.

“We are excited to bring in Matt to direct the Select program,” said Assistant General Manager Tanner Sands. “He has a decade of experience managing programs around Long Island and also has an exceptional coaching background.”

Originally from Wigan, England, Lannon has created strong ties with multiple soccer clubs on Long Island. He currently oversees all soccer operations at Babylon Soccer Club and serves as a coach for  Long Island Soccer Club.

“I’m excited to join an established program and to manage a good group of teams who are excited to play against good competition throughout the summer,” said Lannon. “I believe we will have strong teams throughout all age groups and have a shot at a national title come December.”

The Select team is a 6–7-week seasonal training program focused on delivering high level training and competitive games in a developmental environment. The team competes in the Super Y League with the opportunity to compete for a North American Championship in Tampa, Florida each year in December. 

“We have the utmost confidence that he is going to take the Select program to the next level,” said Sands. “Moreover, he is an exceptional person that is going to produce a culture of growth. We are excited for the future of the program.”

Tryouts for the Select team will be held on Thursday, March 17^th for boys and girls U11 (2012) – U15 (2008). You can register for tryouts here.
