HEALTHCARE APPRECIATION NIGHT WITH THE LONG ISLAND ROUGH RIDERS
SPONSORED BY STONY BROOK ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATES
Uniondale, NY, July 7, 2022 – The Long Island Rough Riders, a United Soccer League (USL) franchise, along with their official healthcare provider, Stony Brook Orthopaedic Associates (SBOA), a practice of Stony Brook Medicine, will co-host “SBOA Health Care Appreciation Night,” providing complimentary ticket entry for all healthcare workers to the team’s doubleheader match on Sunday, July 10.
“We are extremely excited to host this honorary doubleheader match and give back to our local healthcare workers,” said Assistant General Manager Tanner Sands. “Not only is the night crucial for both teams to clinch playoffs, but it is also going to be very special to pay tribute to the medical community.”
Earlier this month, it was announced that SBOA will provide Certified Athletic Trainers (also known as ATCs) for the Rough Riders’ pre-professional men’s and women’s teams throughout the season.
“Our professionals at Stony Brook Medicine are excited to come together and enjoy a night supporting our ATCs and the Rough Riders’ teams,” said Dr. James Penna, Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Chief of Stony Brook’s Division of Sports Medicine. “Dedicating a night to honor healthcare heroes is always special. We hope all medical professionals take this opportunity to experience an exciting night of soccer.”
The women’s team hosts the Westchester Flames in a USL W-League contest at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. at 4 p.m. That match will be followed by the men’s team, who will welcome the Westchester Flames in a USL League Two game at 6 p.m.
The men’s USL League Two team is currently second in the standings with a record of 7-2-0 with player Matthew Vowinkel placed #3 in league-leading goals. The women’s team is looking to make their playoff debut in the USL W-League’s inaugural season.
