UNIONDALE, N.Y. – (Tuesday, March 8, 2022) –
The Long Island Rough Riders are pleased to announce the re-signing of Elizabeth Cruz for the 2022 USL W League season.
“It’s exciting to have Lizzy returning,” said Head Coach Kelsey Hauser. “After last year’s rookie of the year performance and another year of collegiate experience, I’m really looking forward to Lizzy in our attacking line.”
Cruz is currently a sophomore on the George Washington University Women’s Soccer team. In the 2021 season, Cruz played in 10 games with three starts for a total of 512 minutes. She netted one goal vs. Richmond which the Colonials won 3-1.
“After working with Lizzy last year she is someone we wanted to sign for this season,” said Sporting Director Tom Paris. “Lizzy is an incredibly hard worker, who is also humble, and willing to learn. I’m excited to see how she’s improved over the college year.”
Additionally, Cruz earned the Young Player of the Year for the 2021 season with the Rough Riders. In her first year with the Rough Riders, she played in 8 games and totaled of 264 minutes on the field. Previous Head Coach Steve Price contributed her Young Player of the Year honor to her “tremendous energy, a willingness to learn and always gives 100%.”
