Long Island Rough Riders Standouts Earn CAA Honors

Two Long Island Rough Riders standouts – Hofstra University midfielder Millie Davies and Stony Brook University forward Luciana Setteducate – secured high honors from the Coastal Athletic Conference.

Both made the CAA first team.

Davies, a junior, has been a vital player for the Hofstra (7-4-6) this season.

For the CAA playoff-bound Pride this season, the Manchester, England, native finished the regular season with five goals and five assists, all career highs. Davies also earned All-CAA Championship team honors last year.

The fourth-seeded Pride qualified for the CAA playoffs and met the fifth-seeded University of Delaware (6-6-6) in a first-round match at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J. on Thursday, Oct. 31.

For the Rough Riders women, Davies was named Players’ Player of the Year, as voted by her teammates, this past USL W League campaign.

That did not surprise head coach Matt Lannon.

“She’s got quite an infectious personality, a great attitude towards the game,” he said. “Quality player. So good on the ball. Really, really determined. Hard working off the ball.”

Setteducate, who hails from Bellmore, N.Y., led the Seawolves with 10 goals and 7 assists. Her point total was tied for the league lead and tied for 20th most in NCAA Division I. Setteducate recorded a point in 10 of 18 matches, tallied a goal and an assist in three appearances, and registered two multi-goal games. The 5-foot-7 junior’s most memorable match came in a 6-0 win over Hampton, when she registered a hat-trick on Oct. 10.

During the W League season, Setteducate led all goal scorers with 18 goals in only 12 games.

The Seawolves (12-3-3) secured a share of the CAA regular season title for the first time in program history. Second-seeded Stony Brook earned the No. 2 seed in the CAA tournament and will host the winner of No. 3 Elon University and No. 6 College of Charleston at LaValle Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m.

The Rough Riders captured the Metropolitan Division with a 10-0-2 record and 32 points, six points ahead of second-place Morris Elite. They also outscored their opposition during the regular season by a 69-9 margin.

They will return to W League action in May 2025.
