The Women Draw with #1 Division Ranked Morris Elite

NEWARK, N.J. – Quite appropriately, the game between two of the top teams in the Metropolitan Division ended in a draw on Saturday afternoon.

The Long Island Rough Riders and Morris Elite FC played to a scoreless tie in a USL W League match at Rutgers University-Newark.

The result left the Riders at 6-2-2 and 14 points while Mount Elite (7-1-2, 23) broke a tie with Queensboro FC (7-2-1, 22) and moved into first place, at least a few hours as the Queens-based side was scheduled to play FA Euro New York later in the day.

Both teams had opportunities to score, but couldn’t connect, whether it was the fine play of the goalkeepers or just shooting their chances off target.

In many respects, it seemed there was a game within the game between the Rough Riders’ Jordan Littleboy and Mount Elite’s Natalia Ramirez because both players led the teams in close encounters.

Littleboy did just about everything in her power as she tried to score her first goal of the season.

She certainly made goalkeeper Arden Lembryk work. In the 38th minute, Littleboy sent one-bounce shot into the keeper’s arms. Seven minutes later, Lembryk made a diving save on a hard shot. Littleboy was at it again in the 70th minute, drilling a shot that was parried away by Lembryk.

Ramirez had her moments for the host as well. Four minutes into the second half she shot just wide right. On the hour, Ramirez caught Long Island goalkeeper Alana Brennan well out of the net as she attempted a long chip shot that sailed just wide left. Ramirez also headed a shot overe the crossbar in the 72nd minute.

The Rough Riders return home for their final two regular season games. They will host FA Euro New York at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. on Wednesday July 6 at 8 p.m. and Westchester Flames on Sunday, July 10 at 4 p.m.
