The Long Island Rough Riders continue to strengthen their roster ahead of the 2026 USL League Two season with the addition of Victor Castel, Atcha Yaya, and Carter Tavares — three talented players who bring a blend of attacking quality, professional experience, and international pedigree to the squad.

Victor Castel arrives from Adelphi University, where the Valencia, Spain native has built an impressive résumé as one of the region’s most dangerous attacking players. A dynamic left forward, Castel is known for his pace, technical quality, and instinct around goal. He can stretch defenses with his speed, create separation in one-on-one situations, and finish chances with composure. His list of honors reflects both his consistency and impact, including CSC Academic All-America Second Team (2023), NE10 First Team All-Conference (2023), United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week (2023), and multiple weekly conference recognitions. Players with this kind of quality, pedigree, and attacking upside do not come around often, and the Rough Riders are fortunate to welcome a player of his caliber to the squad this summer.

Joining him is Atcha Yaya, a commanding center back from the Bronx who brings valuable professional experience and leadership to the defensive unit. Yaya has competed in USL League One with Central Valley Fuego FC and also spent time in the New York Red Bulls system, giving him a strong foundation at a high level of the game. A composed and physical defender, he reads the game well, brings confidence in possession, and provides a steady presence along the back line. His experience and maturity should make him an important piece for the Rough Riders as they prepare for the demands of the season.

The club also welcomes Carter Tavares, a talented young attacking midfielder who is currently a freshman at Creighton University. Tavares brings creativity, vision, and technical quality in the final third, with the ability to unlock defenses and influence the tempo of the attack. In addition to his collegiate career, he has already gained experience in professional football in Portugal and has represented the Canada U18 National Team, highlighting the level of talent and potential he brings to the squad. His background and playmaking ability add another exciting element to the Rough Riders’ midfield options.

With the additions of Castel, Yaya, and Tavares, the Rough Riders continue to assemble a roster with quality across the field as the club looks ahead to another competitive summer in USL League Two.

The Rough Riders’ 2026 season will begin in May, as the club looks to build on last year’s playoff run. The team will be hosting Staten Island ASC in its home opener at Mitchel Athletic Complex on May 27 at 7 p.m. Buy Tickets.
