Women Show Out with a 7 -0 Win Over FA Euro

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island Rough Riders women scored early and often as they tallied a season-high seven goals en route a 7-0 triumph over FA Euro New York in a USL W League match at Poly Prep Country Day School on Wednesday evening.

The win lifted the Rough Riders to 6-2-1 and 19 points in the Metropolitan Division while FA Euro remained winless at 0-9-0.

Nikki Bermudez and Salma Tarik each recorded hat-tricks. Team captain Kimberly Marra scored the seventh goal.

The Rough Riders, who recorded their second consecutive road clean sheet, entered the match with 13 goals in eight games.

“We played well for the first 30 minutes,” Rough Riders head coach Matt Lannon said. “We moved the ball quickly. That was kind of our plan to go up early big and rest on it.

“Saturday’s a big game for us.”

Except for several FA Euro incursions into the Long Island half of the pitch, it seemed the Riders were on a game-long power play they dominated the contest so much in possession and chances.

In fact, the visitors didn’t take long to score as Tarik found the net, solving goalkeeper Reem Shaban only 90 seconds after kickoff. By the seventh minute, the Rough Riders enjoyed a three-goal advantage, bolstering it to a 7-0 margin at the half.

The Rough Riders will play one more road match — at division leader Morris Elite FC (7-0-1, 22, prior to Wednesday’s game vs. Cedar Stars) on Saturday, July 2 at 3:30 p.m. – before they return home for their final two regular season games. They will host FA Euro New York at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. on Saturday, July 2 at 3:30 p.m. and Westchester Flames on Sunday, July 10 at 4 p.m.
