USL W League Match Recap: Long Island Rough Riders vs. Morris Elite
UNIONDALE N.Y. (May 22, 2022) –
The Long Island Rough Riders opened their season against Morris Elite on Sunday May 22nd in the inaugural USL W League season.
With their first year in a new league, the Rough Riders were looking to come out strong but were met by equalizing efforts from Morris Elite.
Returning to the starting 11 were key leaders such as Captain Kim Marra, Amanda Buck and Alexa Schenider. While new players took the pitch and contributed to the battle for just one goal in this stalemate.
In the opening 4 minutes of the match came an opportunity on a breakaway for Morris Elite forward but was stopped by Rough Riders goalkeeper Stephanie Sparkowski. Sparkowski had a flawless execution in coming off her line and stopping the play.
Nearing halftime in the 29th minute came a chance for Amanda Buck breaking out of the back with a shot that was saved by Morris Elite keeper.
Half time settled in at 0-0 with the game up for grabs from either team.
Jordan Littleboy, Hofstra’s 2021 Third Team All American, controlled the midfield for the Rough Riders throughout the half. Among others making their debut were Nicole Bermudez, Grace Cagnina and Morgan Elliott.
Sparkowski came up huge for a second time to keep the game tied in the 81st minute in another break away stoppage coming off her line and stopping a huge opportunity for Morris Elite
0 shots on goal for either team was clearly reflected as the final whistle came in, confirming a 0-0 drawer.
